Three Quick Steps to Lift Latent Prints

 

 

1. Use a flashlight or other light source to help you locate areas touched.

 

2. Use the black powder VERY sparingly, remember, a little goes a long

    way.

 

    a. Brush the powder over the print very gently until the print can be          

        easily seen.

 

    b. Pull enough tape from the roll to overlap both ends of the latent lift

        card.

 

    c. Spread the tape over the latent print, flit the print and place it on the    

        card.  

 

3. Complete the card(s)     

         

    a. Secure the cards in an evidence bag with evidence tape.

 

    b. Attach a completed property receipt.

 

    c. Submit to the Latent Print Unit for examination.

 

Remember............

 

Send ONLY latent prints to the Latent Print Unit!

 

If you have items that need to be processed using methods other than black powder, those items must be sent to the Crime Scene Unit. Do not include them with the latent print cards. They must be in their own package and on a separate property receipt.
